Former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright met today with the Committee for the Defence of Democracy delegation during her visit to Poland, in connection with the NATO summit. During more than hour and a half conversation, KOD representatives presented the history and upcoming plans of the Committee. Stressing the importance and full support for the NATO decisions to significantly strengthen security of the country they also passed concerns regarding recent actions of the ruling party, which may constitute a threat to the constitutional order and the rule of law in Poland. Madeleine Albright, who Chairs the National Democratic Institute, was particularly interested in the situation around the Constitutional Court, the Attorney General as well as freedom of the media. She emphasised that during her visit she will place particular emphasis on the fact that NATO is not only a military alliance, but first and foremost a community of values, and in that community lies its strength. Madeleine Albright expressed great appreciation for the role played by civil society in Poland and other countries.
