The minister of justice in the new government, Zbigniew Ziobro, has issued a letter to the the judges of the constitutional tribunal just few minutes before the most recent trial. According to the chief of the tribunal, professor Andrzej Rzepliński, the letter contained a ‘manual’ on what decisions should be made and a warning: disobedience and ‘breaking the law’ will have consequences.
A letter like this can be read directly as jeopardizing the judicial independence by the ruling party. All this happens just after the visit in Poland of the representatives of the EU commission. At these meetings, the same minister of justice expressed a full willingness to cooperate in solving the legal limbo in Poland. Was these declarations true intentions? After today, there are no doubts about the answer.
